Ben Roethlisberger led the Steelers to a win on Thursday night over the Cleveland Browns, but the big story is that he injured his ankle in that game in what looked like very painful fashion. Despite a limp, he returned to the game. That was a pretty standard maneuver for him, but the concerns over the injury have not gone away. According to CBS Pittsburgh, Roethlisberger will have an MRI on his ankle on Friday. He also commented on the injury.
“The X-rays came back negative. From what I’ve been told, it’s a high ankle sprain,” said Roethlisberger. “I thought my leg was broke honestly. It was one of the most painful things I’ve ever felt. It felt like the middle of my leg was just… they came out and grabbed it. I was asking doc if he thought it was broke and he said, ‘Let’s go get an X-ray.’ But just thankfully it wasn’t.”
Roethlisberger is obviously essential to the Steelers offense and if he is out for any extended period of time it could be a big blow to their title chances. But we'll know more about the severity of the injury after the MRI comes back.
