The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports today that Steelers linebacker James Harrison underwent "very routine" back surgery this morning.

Harrison's agent, Bill Parise, told the Post-Gazette the surgery involved the lower back, but he declined to specify further. He also said he expected the procedure to go well.

"They do not anticipate any difficulties," said agent Bill Parise. "He's going to be fine."

The linebacker compiled one of his best statistical yet in 2010. His 100 combined tackles, 70 solo tackles, 10.5 sacks and six forced fumbles all ranked as the second best marks of his career. Additionally, he also posted career highs this past season in interceptions with two and passes defended with five. Those numbers earned him a fourth straight Pro Bowl selection.

Harrison also proved very durable, starting all 19 games for the Steelers. In the past four seasons, he's missed only one start, and that came back in 2008.
