Dancing With The Stars: Hines Ward Odds-On Favorite To Win After First Five Weeks

With five weeks in the books, we're approaching the halfway point of Dancing With The Stars, ABC's hit ballroom dancing reality show. Hines Ward, the fan favorite wide receiver of the Pittsburgh Steelers, has performed incredibly thus far. So well in fact, that he's considered the odds on favorite to win the whole competition. God Bless America. Only here can you wager on things like reality television show competitions. Well, that's probably not true. But anyway. Bodog recently published odds for DWTS, and as you'll see, only Disney star Chelsea Kane and Ralph Macchio (better known as The Karate Kid) are considered threats to Ward emerging victorious. I personally don't think it's fair that Kane was asked to participate. She's a Disney star for cripes sake, meaning she's been singing, dancing and performing in contests like this since she was a little girl. But being that ABC is owned by Disney, it's obvious why she was elected to compete. But I digress.

I would comment more, but really, I'd suggest instead that you just read this outstanding commentary about Ward's performance so far. The article analyzes Ward's performance on DWTS compared to that of Cincinnati Bengals WR Chad Johnson/OchoCinco, a semi-finalist on the show several years ago. The discussion revolves around the themes of attitude, work ethic and personality, and how the comparisons between Ward and Johnson are translatable to both the football field and the dance floor. A truly great read even if you've never seen a single episode of the show.
