2011 NFL Draft Results: New York Giants Draft Prince Amukamara

The New York Giants got a real bargain at the 19th overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft, snagging Nebraska Prince Amukamara. A lot of analysts basically considered Amukamara the 1b to LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson's 1a. That is, he's not quite the athletic freak that Peterson is, but he's still likely to be a quality NFL starter. It's a great pick for New York, a solid team with few holes. The Giants will likely look to shore up their offensive front in the forthcoming rounds.

This affects the Pittsburgh Steelers, because it marks the beginning of the alleged second tier of cornerbacks: Jimmy Smith of Colorado, Aaron Williams of Texas, and Brandon Harris of Miami. The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to be in the mix for a corner at pick #23, but beyond that, the Steelers might find that a corner they covet falls into their laps at #31. Alternatively, if two of the above trio are still on the board then (likely Harris and Williams), you could see the Steelers trading down in the 2nd round for value and selecting one of them in the late 30s.

Then again, they might draft a defensive end or a tackle instead. We'll just have to wait and see...
