Steelers receiver Hines Ward and partner Kym Johnson were named the champions of Dancing With The Stars in the show's two-hour season finale Tuesday night, winning with Mirror Ball trophy. The crowd, which was filled with celebrities, clearly favored Ward and were ecstatic when he and Johnson were named the winners.
↵Ward continued his string of impressive performances with another well-received dance on Tuesday. Ward and Johnson received a perfect 30 out of 30 in their final dance, a samba. Ward was dressed in black with a gold terrible towel type of thing jammed in his waistband, and he concluded the routine by taking it out and twirling it around. Their perfect score gave them 89 out of 90 points for Monday and Tuesday combined. Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas also earned a perfect score, however, giving them 89 out of 90 as well. So did Kirstie Alley, although she and Maksim Chmerkoviskiy lagged well behind due to their scores Monday night.
↵Surprisingly, Kane and Ballas finished third despite their strong scores, as they apparently didn't do well with the viewers, leaving Ward and Alley as the two remaining contestants. The fact that Alley defeated Kane despite Kane's stronger scores from the judges might have raised fears that the viewers favored Alley over Ward as well, but those fears were apparently unfounded. Steelers fans must have really turned out to vote in large numbers.
