Former Steelers linebacker Jason Gildon is about to be hired as the defensive line coach for Peters Township under new coach Rich Piccinini, the Trib reports. His hire will first need to be reviewed by the district school board.

Gildon, a Wexford resident, has met with the Peters Township players, Piccinini said.

"When he first got there, he was former Steeler Jason Gildon," Piccinini said. "That`s how the kids saw him. But he`s turned into Coach Gildon. That 'wow' factor is going to die down, and they`ll listen to him as a coach."

Gildon, 38, played with the Steelers from 1994 to 2003, and with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2004. He is the Steelers' career leader in sacks, with 77. He recorded 10 or more sacks in a season three times, and he made three Pro Bowls. Perhaps his best season came in 2000, when he recorded 13.5 sacks and he and fellow outside linebacker Joey Porter wreaked havoc on opposing offenses.
