Steelers Depot reports that cornerback Cortez Allen, who has missed the entire preseason so far with a hamstring injury, will play Thursday night against the Carolina Panthers.
On Wednesday, Steelers running back Baron Batch posted to Allen on Twitter:
so you good to go brotha?
Thank the Lord
Allen was the Steelers’ fourth-round draft pick. Given the Steelers’ uncertain cornerback situation, he might still have a chance at a spot on the 53-man roster. He should play on special teams as well as at corner.
Allen’s missing so much time this preseason is a shame, since he’s supposed to be talented but raw. He comes from a small school (The Citadel), and the Steelers don’t necessarily know a lot about him at this stage. The lockout did him no favors, and then there was the injury. It’s hard to see him contributing much this season, except maybe on special teams.
