Steelers Add Jamon Meredith, Will Go With Marcus Gilbert At Right Tackle

The Steelers have signed offensive lineman Jamon Meredith to fill the vacancy left by the injury of Willie Colon. The Steelers will likely depend on 2011 second-round draft pick Marcus Gilbert to start at right tackle in Colon's absence, at least at first. Meredith, a journeyman who has been a member of the Packers, Bills, Lions and Giants before coming to the Steelers, isn't necessarily likely to play much. But his addition might signal that the Steelers have given up on the idea of re-signing Flozell AdamsJames Walker notes

Meredith's signing likely means the team won't pursue veteran Flozell Adams, whom the Steelers released shortly after camp began as a cost-cutting move. The 36-year-old Adams started 16 games at right tackle as Colon's replacement last season but would command too high a salary for the team to fit under the cap.

This should be the end of the Steelers' offensive line moves for now, but there could be more later if Gilbert doesn't perform.
