Hines Ward Says He's Not Retiring Now

There were rumors earlier Monday suggesting that Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward planned to retire, but Ward piped up via his Facebook page Monday afternoon to announce that he had such such plans.

I’m also getting lots of questions about retirement so let me set the record straight: I have no plans on retiring right now. I want to win another Superbowl. I don’t know where the media is getting this info from but rest assured that when I decide to retire, you’ll hear it from ME first.

So there you have it. That may mean, however, that he’ll have to consider finishing his career elsewhere, as he might not want to do. As a Steeler, he’s probably done. He’s not the player he used to be, which at age 35 is no surprise. Also, the Steelers have lots of talent and depth at the wide receiver position, with young stars in Mike Wallace and Antonio Brown and another solid youngster in Emmanuel Sanders. There isn’t much of a role for Ward in the Steelers’ offense anymore, as many Steelers games down the stretch made painfully clear.
