Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley is the top candidate to replace Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt if the team decides to relieve him of his duties at the conclusion of the 2012 season, according to a report by Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com on Sunday afternoon.
Citing sources close to the situation, La Canfora reports that Haley's name is consistently mentioned in internal discussions in Arizona. The Bidwell family are believed to be supporters of Haley and reportedly pushed for him to be named the team's offensive coordinator after he was fired by the Kansas City Chiefs last season.
Haley was the team's offensive coordinator from 2007-08.
Of course, Haley being named the Cardinals next head coach would depend on the organization deciding to fire Whisenhunt. With $5.5 million still owed to the incumbent coach, La Canfora states that it would be out of character for the Cardinals organization to absorb a financial hit to make a coaching change.
