More: Ward: 'I want to be here, I want to play.'
Steelers Depot collects a couple updates regarding wide receiver Hines Ward and running back Rashard Mendenhall.
Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert says, first, that the Steelers have not decided whether to bring Ward back this season. Jason La Canfora recently reported that the Steelers had already decided against bringing Ward back, but the Steelers are denying that’s the case. Ward’s role with the team was sharply reduced in 2011. He is set to make $4 million in 2011, but has repeatedly indicated that he would be amenable to a pay cut.
Colbert also notes that it’s possible that Mendenhall, who has a torn ACL, could begin the 2012 season on the PUP list. The Steelers should be in reasonably good shape with Isaac Redman as their top running back, but they will probably also seek depth at the position this offseason, perhaps in the form of a late-round draft pick.
