In an interview with the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review at the NFL scouting combine, Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert says that he expects free agent wide receiver Mike Wallace to stay in Pittsburgh despite the growing interest in him with other teams. Despite the salary cap causing complications with a potential long term deal, Colbert expressed his confidence.
We want Mike to finish his career with the Steelers and I'm very confident that Mike wants to finish his career with the Steelers and play with a great quarterback like Ben Roethlisberger
The Steelers have until March 13 to clear enough cap space to be able to work with it. The Steelers would be able to be in compliance through cutting players and restructuring contracts to get under the cap.
If Wallace does indeed sign with another team, the Steelers would get a first round draft pick in compensation for the loss of the restricted free agent.
