Aaron Smith To Be Released By Pittsburgh Steelers, According To Report

The Pittsburgh Steelers kicked off their movement to the young guard of players on Wednesday, announcing that the team would release veteran Hines Ward. On Thursday, news now breaks that the Steelers plan to release another veteran and fan favorite in defensive end Aaron Smith.

The release of Aaron Smith shouldn't be a big surprise, as the aging defensive lineman hasn't played more than six games the past three seasons dealing with injuries. While Smith had been an unheralded important part of the Steelers defense, he was due a little over $2 million for 2012 and just hasn't been able to stay healthy. The Steelers have also drafted players on the defensive line like Ziggy Hood and Cameron Heyward that should be ready to step into their roles.
