NFL Mock Draft 2012: Could Steelers Get Dontari Poe?

The Pittsburgh Steelers are a team that is looking for help on defense entering the 2012 season. A good chance to get that help would be in the NFL Draft. Though the Steelers do not pick until No. 24, a name that could be available at that position, although you have to employ a little wishful thinking to get him to land there, is Memphis nose tackle Dontari Poe. In the latest mock draft from Behind the Steel Curtain, Poe is projected to be drafted by the Steelers.

This pick would be in within thirty seconds. While Donta Hightower is a great player and so is Cordy Glenn, I can't see any way in which the Steelers pass up on Poe if he is available. It is not often that you get the chance to draft an elite athlete who is 340+ pounds. Poe has all the tools to become a dominant NT in this league and with a year of tutelage from Casey Hampton, he could help the Steelers transition to the next wave of elite defenses.

Despite Poe's size, he has proven in workouts and at the Scouting Combine that he is quick off the snap and is very powerful. He is an athlete who could be the cornerstone in the next great Steelers defense if he is selected by Pittsburgh.
