Heinz Field Ownership Approves Plan For Steelers To Study Possibility Of New Seats

The Steelers took another step toward adding 3,000 seats to the south end zone area at Heinz Field, as the Sports and Exhibition Authority, which owns the stadium, approved a plan to study the possibility of making the addition.

The authority granted PSSI Corp., a Steelers subsidiary that operates the stadium, permission to approach NFL officials for approval to increase the stadium's capacity and market personal seat licenses to fans.

The stadium now has a capacity of over 65,000 during football games.

The NFL could consider the request at a meeting in May. The team has been examining a possible expansion since 2010.

The Steelers presumably would have no trouble selling the new seats, although there is concern about finding parking for all the fans.

Here's a look at the area where seats would be installed. There's a ton of open space.
