ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that the NFL is considering getting rid of the Pro Bowl, perhaps even next season.
↵↵↵Sources say that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, who has previously voiced his displeasure with the lack of competitiveness in recent Pro Bowl games, is strongly considering suspending this year's game, sources say.
↵Beyond 2013, another league source believes the Pro Bowl is "DOA (dead on arrival)."

It isn't news that the Pro Bowl, like most All-Star games throughout sports, is a bit of a joke. I'm sure someone gets excited about it, but I'm not sure who.
↵Anyway, if the league gets rid of the Pro Bowl, it would still have some sort of voting to pick the league's best players, who would then be recognized at around the time of the Super Bowl. This way, the NFL would avoid trouble with the players, many of whom have Pro Bowl incentives in their contracts.
↵Goodell recently asked the players for ideas about how to make the game better.
