With the 24th pick in the fifth round, the 159th pick overall, the Pittsburgh Steelers have selected 5-foot-8 speedster Chris Rainey from the University of Florida.
Rainey played several roles in the Gators offense, and though not as big as former teammate Percy Harvin, Rainey could be utlized in similar fashion by the Steelers on the pro level. Rainey, is a quick and agile runner, making defenders often miss on the first attempt. He is also a good route runner out of the backfield and thus a possible asset in the Pittsburgh passing game.
Rainey's slight frame could be an issue in the pros, and he is a poor blocker in the backfield. The former Gator does not project as an every down back in the NFL and would be best utilized in specialty packages.
