The PIttsburgh Tribune-Review is reporting that free agent Steelers backup quarterback Byron Leftwich has worked out for the Indianapolis Colts, who are looking to bring in a veteran to complement either Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III, who the Colts will select with the No. 1 overall pick at the end of the month.
Bruce Arians, the former Pittsburgh offensive coordinator and current Colts O.C., is pushing for Leftwich, who he worked with for three seasons. The issue for the Steelers, who want Leftwich back as Ben Roethlisberger's understudy, is cap room, even with a veteran minimum.
Leftwich would likely see more time in Indy (he played in six games for the Steelers in three years, missing last season entirely with a broken arm) as either Luck or Griffin develops. The only contracted quarterbacks on the Steelers roster other than Roethlisberger are Troy Smith and Jerrod Johnson.
