Chris Rainey was an explosive back at the University of Florida and could be a valuable weapon for the Pittsburgh Steelers this season.
Dave Bryan of Steelers Depot takes a look at the Steelers running back situation and gives his his take on Rainey:
Rainey is certainly not an every down back as his smallish build will not let him be a between the tackles type runner. What Rainey is however, is a play-maker and his ability to also line up in the slot and catch the ball out of the backfield will make him a hard player for defenses he faces to account for.
During his career as a Gator, Rainey played in fifty-two games, compiled 2,464 yards and thirteen touchdowns on 396 rushing attempts, 795 yards and six touchdowns on sixty-nine receptions, and 454 return yards on eighteen kickoffs. On special teams, he holds the team career record for blocked kicks (4). Following his senior season in 2011, his fellow Gators recognized him as the team's most valuable player.
