Steelers Offseason 2012: Pittsburgh Signs Long Snapper Matt Katula

On Tuesday morning, Scott Smith of XAM Sports announced on Twitter that long snapper Matt Katula had signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Smith is also Katula's agent.

Katula is 6-foot-6, 265 pounds. The 29-year-old graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 2005. From 2005 to 2009, Katula played in every game for the Baltimore Ravens, After losing his job and being released by Baltimore during training camp in 2010, he was signed by the New England Patriots in November 2010 and finished out the season with the Pats. Last year, the Minnesota Vikings signed him in November, and he played in the team's last five games.

Katula joins veteran Greg Warren as the other long snapper on Pittsburgh's roster. Warren, who is 30, has been with Pittsburgh since 2005. The two are expected to compete for the long-snapping gig during training camp.
