On Saturday, the Pittsburgh Panthers will play against Ole Miss in their third-straight BBVA Compass Bowl. Pitt beat Kentucky two years ago and lost to SMU last year. The Big East is 5-1 all-time in the bowl.
This season, the Panthers finished 6-6 (3-4 Big East), ending their regular season with back-to-back victories to earn bowl eligibility. Pitt almost earned the upset of the season when they took Notre Dame to triple overtime in South Bend on Nov. 3 before losing 29-26. The Panthers' best win of the season came against Rutgers.
Their opponent Ole Miss (6-6, 3-5 SEC) needed a win over Mississippi State in their final game to earn bowl eligibility. Prior to that win, the Rebels had lost three straight. With no marquee win on the season, the Rebels' best outings of the season were close losses to Texas A&M and LSU.
