The red-hot Pedro Alvarez posted his second consecutive multi-homer game, and Delwyn Young racked up five RBIs as the Pirates’ offense had its way with Randy Wolf and the Brewers tonight.

All of the Pirates’ first six batters (Jose Tabata, Young, Neil Walker, Garrett Jones, Alvarez and Lastings Milledge) had multi-hit games, as did eighth hitter Ronny Cedeno. The Pirates’ offense seems to really be coming together – there seem to be far fewer weak spots than there were a month ago, and I’m really enjoying watching these guys hit.

The pitching has been another matter, but Zach Duke got through six uneventful innings tonight.

Tonight was the fourth time in the last five games that the Pirates have scored nine runs or more.

After his two-homer performance last night, Pedro Alvarez had yet another multi-homer game tonight after hitting his second jack tonight in the ninth. This one was a bomb off the foul pole in right field; his first homer of the evening was a drive to dead center. The Pirates lead, 15-3, in yet another huge offensive game.

Bucs catcher Ryan Doumit has left the game after a collision at home with Rickie Weeks. He left the game feeling “light-headed and nauseous.”

The Pirates’ offense has continued to produce tonight – Delwyn Young has a homer and five RBIs, and Pedro Alvarez has a two-run homer. The Pirates lead, 11-3.

Ryan Braun's two-run homer in the sixth inning pulled the Brewers to within a run, but Pittsburgh held on for an 11-9 victory for just its third win in its last 11 games.

The right-hander had a streak of six straight starts in which he gave up two runs or fewer snapped.

Pittsburgh could use his presence tonight, given that Duke hasn't won since May 18 and is just 3-7 with a 6.33 earned run average in 15 career starts versus the Brewers. That includes losses in both starts against them this year, with Duke giving up 14 earned runs over nine total innings for a 14.00 ERA.

The left-hander saw his winless stretch extended even though he gave up just two runs on five hits over five innings of a 5-2 setback.

Wolf is 8-2 with a 3.57 ERA in 16 career starts versus the Pirates and gone 1-1 with a 4.10 ERA in four starts versus them this year. He faced Pittsburgh in his final start before the All-Star break, allowing four runs on seven hits over six innings while serving up home-run balls to Lastings Milledge and Alvarez.

That victory moved Wolf to 7-8 with a 4.56 ERA on the season.
