If the Boston Bruins weren't in the Pittsburgh Penguins' heads before tonight, they almost assuredly are now.

Down 2-0, Boston rallied to score four goals in the final 3:23 of the third period to defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-2 on Monday night at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh.

Boston's late comeback brought back memories of the Penguins' other notable late collapse this year, similarly suffered against the Bruins. Comfortably ahead 4-2 going to the third period, the Penguins surrendered five unanswered goals to the Bruins, losing 7-4.

The Penguins jumped ahead in the second period after a fortuitous Mike Rupp backhand sneaked past Tukka Rask's short side post, giving the Penguins a 1-0 lead. A few minutes later, a lively Kris Letang's blistering slapshot eluded Rask's glovehand and extended the lead to 2-0.

The Bruins clawed back into the game late when Zdeno Chara's slapshot blew past Marc-Andre Fleury, cutting the Penguins' lead in half. Twelve seconds later, Boston's Brad Marchand leveled the score from in tight after a mad rush to make it 2-2.

With just over two minutes remaining, Jordan Staal was called for holding and put the Bruins back on the power play. Mark Recchi capitalized on a rebound from in front to put the Bruins ahead 3-2, a lead that would become 4-2 after an empty-net goal.

It was the Penguins' third consecutive loss after dismantling Tampa Bay 8-1 last week. Sidney Crosby sat out for third consecutive game while suffering from symptoms from a mild concussion.

The Bruins visit CONSOL Energy Center and the Sidney Crosby-less Penguins tonight at 7:30. Crosby is out with a concussion and the Penguins have struggled to score in his absence. In an attempt to revive their offense and cover for Crosby and Arron Asham (who is expected to be out with illness), the Penguins have recalled Dustin Jeffrey, who has a goal and an assist in three games with the Pens this year.

The Bruins are tied with the Montreal Canadiens at the top of the Northeast Division, but they're 1-1-3 in their last five games, with overtime losses against the Thrashers, Sabres and Canadiens and a loss to the Wild. The two teams' last matchup featured the Pens' epic third-period collapse, in which the Bruins scored five goals. It might not be wise to expect such a high-scoring game tonight, though, and that goes for either team. The Pens haven't done much offensively in Crosby's absence, and the Bruins are struggling to get things done on the power play.
