Dejan Kovacevic tweets that the Pirates have promoted infielder Josh Harrison from Class AAA Indianapolis. No corresponding move has officially been announced, but it looks like what will happen is that Steve Pearce (calf) will head to the disabled list. There might also be another move, with Ryan Doumit (ankle) to the DL and Indianapolis catcher Dusty Brown to the big leagues, but that hasn't been announced yet.
↵
Harrison was acquired with Jose Ascanio and Kevin Hart from the Cubs for Tom Gorzelanny and John Grabow. He's never been a great prospect, due in part to his small size and lack of power, but he was batting .321 at Indianapolis and does appear to have the ability to hit for average. He's less likely to be a complete zero with the bat than Brandon Wood and Pedro Ciriaco are, so hopefully the Pirates will find some playing time for Harrison while third basemen Pearce and Pedro Alvarez recover.
↵

The Pirates failed to complete a sweep of the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field Sunday, losing 3-2 in a game that was delayed by rain for more than two hours.

Ryan Dempster pitched six strong innings for the Cubs, giving up only a two-run double by Lyle Overbay in the first. The Cubs scored two runs off Jeff Karstens in the second, with a line-drive solo homer by Aramis Ramirez and a sacrifice fly by Koyie Hill.

The Hill sacrifice brought home Carlos Pena, who ran into Pirates catcher Ryan Doumit. Doumit then left the game with an ankle injury.

The Cubs scored the go-ahead run on Starlin Castro's sacrifice fly in the third.

Karstens allowed three runs, two earned, in five innings, while striking out four and walking none. The Pirates got scoreless innings of relief by Chris Resop, Evan Meek and Dan McCutchen. But they couldn't manage to score against the Cubs' best relievers, as Kerry Wood, Sean Marshall and Carlos Marmol pitched scoreless innings of their own.

The Pirates will now head to New York to play a road series against the Mets, which begins Monday night.
