Scott Brown reports that Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger broke his thumb on his throwing hand in Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. It doesn’t look like he’ll miss any games, however – the Steelers have a bye this week, and Roethlisberger says he would play the Steelers’ next game even if that weren’t the case.

Ben on whether a broken thumb will affect his status Nov. 27 in KC: “Absolutely not. I’d play this week.”

Behind The Steel Curtain, meanwhile, notes that Roethlisberger’s thumb has been a consistent problem.

The injury happened during the third quarter of the Bengals game. When asked when exactly it happened, Ben said he did not recall. Apparently, that thumb has been a problem for Ben for his entire career. He has had to wear a protective sleeve over it in previous seasons. That would probably explain why he wears a glove sometimes, despite it not being cold out.

Roethlisberger’s willingness to play through injury is well-known, and this injury probably feels like child’s play compared to some of the others he’s had. I wouldn’t expect it to be a problem going forward.

Continuing the trend of NFC West success, the Seattle Seahawks upset the Baltimore Ravens 22-17 at CenturyLink Field Sunday afternoon. The Seahawks pounded the rock on the ground behind Marshawn Lynch, who carried the ball an astonishing 32 times against a punishing Ravens defense. Lynch gained 109 yards for the Seahawks. Tavaris Jackson avoided the costly mistakes that have plagued his career, throwing no interceptions and managing the game for Seattle.

Trailing for most of the game, the Ravens were forced to throw the ball with Joe Flacco 52 times – hardly a recipe for success. With the Steelers win over the Bengals, and the Ravens loss in Cincinnati, Pittsburgh now leads the AFC North at 7-3. Both Baltimore and Cincinnati are 6-3 and will square off against each other next week at M&T Bank Stadium.

Bringing up the rear in the AFC North are the Cleveland Browns, who lost to the lowly St. Louis Rams at home on a botched snap and missed field goal at the end of regulation. The 49ers and Cardinals joined the Rams and Seahawks to combine for surprising undefeated day for the NFC West.

Pittsburgh Steelers' tight end Heath Miller had a relatively quiet day on Sunday at Paul Brown Stadium. Miller finished with three catches for 31 yards and no touchdowns. He was targeted five times by Ben Roethlisberger, who finished the day with 245 yards passing against the Bengals.

Miller caught a huge third down conversion pass from Roethlisberger and nearly crossed the goal line in the first quarter but was stopped short by Bengals' safety Reggie Nelson at the two yard line (Rashard Mendenhall would punch it in one play later). Nelson hit a defenseless Miller high - a questionable blow given the NFL's stringent enforcement of such hits this season. Fantasy owners of Miller can look for improvement next week when the Steelers travel to Kansas City to face the 19th ranked pass defense in the league.

The Steelers came away with one of their biggest wins of the season on Sunday afternoon in Cincinnati. On offense, they opened with two scoring drives on their first two possessions. Star wideout Mike Wallace, however, was not the beneficiary despite being targeted ten times over the course of the day by quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

It was a solid day for Wallace but just the fourth time in ten games that he failed to cross the goal line. The wide receiver finished with a team-leading six catches for 54 yards. The speedy Wallace was also the beneficiary of a couple rushing attempts, gaining 31 yards on the two carries. It certainly wasn't a no show for Wallace but fantasy owners will hope for more next week when the Steelers travel to Kansas City.

Two key plays in the fourth quarter by maligned cornerback William Gay helped seal the win for the Steelers over the Cincinnati Bengals by a score of 24-17.

The Steelers took the lead on a nine-yard run by Rashard Mendenhall, and the Bengals had the fourth quarter to try to put together a game-tying drive. On their first, they were forced to punt. On their second, Gay had Andy Dalton’s target tightly covered. He deflected the ball, and the deflection was caught by Lawrence Timmons for an interception. On the Bengals’ third chance, they had to punt again. Then Gay got an interception of his own on a pass that Dalton intended for Jerome Simpson. That allowed the Steelers to burn through the Bengals’ timeouts and run out the clock.

Dalton played a pretty good game for a rookie, but he did throw two interceptions. Meanwhile, Ben Roethlisberger did enough, throwing for 245 yards, to help the Steelers to a victory. If the Ravens somehow lose to the Seahawks later on, the Steelers will be in first place in the AFC North. If not, they’ll be a half-game behind the Ravens and a half-game ahead of the Bengals.

Near the end of the third quarter, the Steelers have re-taken the lead against the Cincinnati Bengals, 24-17.

Ben Roethlisberger took the Steelers downfield with passes to a series of receivers (Jerricho Cotchery, then Mike Wallace, then Antonio Brown). Then Isaac Redman ripped off an 11-yard run, and Roethlisberger sent another short pass to Wallace. Then Rashard Mendenhall ran for nine yards for the score. He nearly got stopped at the line of scrimmage, but managed to push ahead and sneak into the end zone.

The Steelers’ running backs had been quiet before this drive – actually, Wallace had been the team’s leading rusher before it – but Pittsburgh now has 100 yards rushing on the game, 42 of them from Mendenhall (who also now has two touchdowns).

Dale Lolley points out that this is the first time all season that the Bengals have allowed more than 20 points.
Midway through the third quarter, the Cincinnati Bengals have tied the Pittsburgh Steelers, with a score of 17-17. The Bengals marched downfield on a series of Andy Dalton passes, then got a break on a personal foul penalty against Lawrence Timmons that gave the Begals a first down at the Steelers’ one-yard line. Cincinnati then scored on a one-yard pass as Larry Foote failed to stop Jermaine Gresham, who caught a nice ball from Dalton.

The Steelers lead the Bengals in both passing yards and rushing yards, but they don’t yet have any turnovers, which hasn’t helped. (The Bengals have one, an interception after a bobble by Heath Miller.)

The Steelers are starting their drive at their 19 yard line after a 21-yard return for Antonio Brown.

In injury news, Leon Hall is out for the Bengals, and A.J. Green (knee) is now listed as questionable.
