The Pittsburgh Penguins won their ninth straight game on Sunday with a convincing 5-2 win over the Boston Bruins. The Pens came out ready to play, and jumped in front by three-goals after one period. Two second period goals were all the Bruins could muster against Marc-Andre Fleury, who won his eighth straight as the starting netminder.

The Pens controlled the action for much of the third, as they salted away the game. Pascal Dupuis pushed the Penguins lead back to three with his 18th goal of the season. Dupuis scored on an incredible individual effort, beating Boston's Milan Lucic for an uncontested breakaway. Jordan Staal fired a clear from the corner and hit Dupuis as he started to rush out of the zone. Lucic tried to meet Dupuis at the blue line but the Pens forward put it right between his legs and went around the big Boston winger. Dupuis was off to the races and flipped a backhand past Marty Turco to ice the win for the Pens. It was Dupuis's fifth point in the past three games.

It was the Penguins ninth win in a row, as they continue to climb the standings towards the top of the Atlantic Division and the Eastern Conference. The team currently in that perch, the New York Rangers, will be their next opponent as Dan Bylsma's club enjoys three days off before a trip to Madison Square Garden on Thursday.

The Boston Bruins cut the Penguins three-goal first period lead down by one, as Pittsburgh took a 4-2 lead into the second intermission at Consol Energy Center. Marty Turco replaced All-Star Tim Thomas after the Pens blitzed the Bruins goalie for a three-goal first. It was Turco's first appearance in an NHL game in almost a year and he stopped 10 of 11 second period shots from the Pens.

The Pens got their fourth goal of the afternoon on Chris Kunitz's 20th score of the year. Kunitz took an assist from James Neal and slammed it home past Turco. Evgeni Malkin was credited with the secondary assist, as he and Neal continued their dominance of the Bruins.

David Krejci put the Bruins on the board less than two minutes into the second period, beating Marc-Andre Fleury to cut the lead to two. Krejci would get another goal late in the period to respond to Kunitz's score as Boston ramped up the pressure and put 16 shots on Fleury in the second period. The line of Krejci, Milan Lucic, and Tyler Seguin was extremely active in Boston's offensive zone. The Pens will look to slow down that line to close out the third period and hold on for their ninth straight win.

The Pittsburgh Penguins jumped all over the Boston Bruins early in their matchup Sunday afternoon, taking a 2-0 lead just seven minutes into the first period. Tough guy Arron Asham scored his fourth of the season to spot the Pens the one goal lead. Asham beat Tim Thomas on an odd-looking goal from the right wing.

The Pens took the two-goal lead on Matt Niskanen's fourth goal of the season. Niskanen took a pass from Evgeni Malkin and fired a quick shot from the point that Thomas had trouble picking up due to a great screen in front by James Neal, who occupied Boston giant Zdeno Chara. Most notably for the Pens, the assist was the 500th point of Malkin's career while the secondary assist from Neal was the 200th point of his career.

Malkin and Neal wouldn't be stuck long on those milestone marks, as the two hooked up on yet another brilliant power play connection. The Pens third goal came with a two-man advantage as the frustration levels on the Boston side continued to mount after a dominating first period by Pittsburgh. After the Bruins cleared the puck just over the blue line, Malkin grabbed it and quickly re-entered the zone while Boston tried to change lines. Geno hit Neal with a perfect cross-ice skip pass and Neal buried his 31st goal of the year on a low drive. The goal snapped a nine-game drought for Neal and put the Pens firmly in control as they look for their ninth straight win.

After Friday night's 2-1 defeat of the Florida Panthers, the Penguins are 20-4-1 since January 13, and with a win Sunday could climb to just two points behind the Eastern Conference-leading New York Rangers.

Marc-Andre Fleury has been stellar in net of late. The Penguins netminder has allowed just one goal in each of his last three starts, and is 6-0-0 with a 1.14 goals-against average in his last six starts.

The Bruins will be looking to recover from a 4-3 loss to the Washington Capitals on Saturday, a frustrating defeat that saw Boston miss several opportunities to at least garner a tie and point in the contest. Boston has, however, won three straight games in Pittsburgh entering Sunday's game.

Sunday's matchup is NBC's Game of the Week, with puck drop at 12:30 p.m. ET.
