Webb Simpson stunned the golf world on Sunday, shooting a 68 in the final round to win the 2012 U.S. Open. The 26-year-old golfer picked up the trophy following his win. He will also receive a $1.44 million prize and all the recognition that comes with winning one of the sport's most high profile tournaments.

Second-place finishers did alright in the prize money department as well. Michael Thompson and Graeme McDowell will each take home $695,916 in prize money. McDowell was on top of the leaderboard heading into the final round of the tournament.

The top 20 finishers at the Olympic Club this weekend will take home more than $100,000, before taxes anyway. Tiger Woods, whose performance in the final two rounds pushed him down the leaderboard, will take home just over $86,000 in prize money.

Any chance that Tiger Woods had of capturing the 2012 U.S. Open ended Sunday afternoon with a terrible start to his final round.

Woods entered the day at three-over par, four strokes off of the lead, but went bogey-bogey to begin his round. He ended his chances then with a double bogey on hole three before finally stopping the bleeding a bit with a par on hole four. He then bogeyed on hole five, bringing his score on the day to five-over par.

The leaders, Graeme McDowell and Jim Furyk, are set to tee off shortly. Their scores of minus-one are one stroke ahead of fellow contenders Fredrik Jacobson and Ernie Ells who just teed off on hole No. 1.

Although he is just 17 years old, amateur golfer Beau Hossler finds himself in contention for the 2012 U.S. Open.

After finding himself atop the leaderboard for a time on Friday, he followed up that performance by shooting an even par round on Saturday and currently sits behind leaders Jim Furyk and Graham McDowell by four strokes. He is ahead of idols Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson on the leaderboards on Sunday.

How has he done this? As a USA Today article explains, Hossler came into the weekend with a tremendous amount of confidence that has seen him through the first three rounds. When asked about whether or not he could win the whole thing after his round Saturday, he said:

"Absolutely," said Hossler, who earned a standing ovation from spectators above the historic 18th green. "There's not a doubt in my mind. Got to go out there and do everything right mentally and physically. But it's definitely out there for me."

Hossler will look to acheive the impossible when he tees off at 5:20 p.m. ET.

Three rounds of golf are complete at the 2012 U.S. Open, with former major winners Jim Furyk and Graeme McDowell tied atop the leaderboard at 1-under par. McDowell shot a 2-under par 68 on Saturday to move to 1-under for the tournament, with Jim Furyk grinding out an even par 70 to tie McDowell entering Sunday's final round at The Olympic Club. Swede Frederik Jacobson is two shots back of the leaders at 1-over par, with 17-year-old high schooler Beau Hossler just four shots off the lead. Tiger Woods virtually fell out of contention with a 5-over par round of 75 on moving day.

Saturday, or moving day, was supposed to be about Tiger Woods. But instead, Woods struggled from the first tee, eventually bogeying on two of his final three holes, and found himself tied for 14th after shooting 75 during the third round of the U.S. Open on Saturday in San Francisco. He had entered the day in a three-way tie for first place.

Instead, taking center stage, were both Jim Furky and Graeme McDowell, the 2010 winner. Furky shot a 68 and McDoweel an even 70 and the two stand at 1-under par heading into the final round. In third is Fredrik Jacobson, who also shot a 68 on Saturday to stay two strokes back.
