Locked out by the NHL, Sidney Crosby is making the most of his time around the holidays.

The NHL's players are having a new experience this year, mostly one that they would rather not see again for the rest of their careers. However, they do have the benefit of being home for the holidays, something that Sidney Crosby is very excited to experience, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Crosby hasn't had time off like this, but he's not complaining:

"I don't even remember [having such a break at this time of year]," he said Tuesday. "Even in minor hockey, we always had a hockey tournament over Christmas, so this is definitely new territory.

With the NHL lockout is full swing and no signs of it ending anytime soon, the players will certainly be able to be with their families through the new year and perhaps even longer. Crosby would certainly love to be back on the ice earning paychecks with his teammates, but he's also happy to be around his loved ones:

"Being home for that long over the holidays, I might put on a few pounds," he said, failing to suppress a smile. "I'm going to have to make sure I stay in shape."

Unlike many players who have begun playing elsewhere, mostly Europe, Crosby isn't doing much of anything in the way of hockey sans a pick-up game every now and again.

Sidney Crosby and the rest of the Pittsburgh Penguins are not speaking about the newest legal maneuverings of the NHLPA.

For the most part, Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby has been vocal about the NHL lockout and his hopes of negotiating a new collective bargaining agreement.

However, since it was reported late last week the NHLPA and its 700 members have until Thursday to vote on disbanding their union, Crosby and many other Penguins players have been silent on the issue, Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.

Penguins veterans Craig Adams, Matt Cooke, Brooks Orpik and Sidney Crosby each declined comment on the vote Monday after a players‘ organized practice at Southpointe.

Those players also declined to discuss details of legal action taken by the NHL last Friday, when the league filed a class-action complaint in New York federal court and an unfair labor practice charge with the National Labor Relations Board.

Adams was named by the league in the complaint.

"I‘m aware I‘m in it," he said, declining additional comment.

The NHL lockout has reached its 93rd day and there are no schedule bargaining sessions between the player and owners.

So far, the league has canceled games through Dec. 30 and there's no signs of things changing soon -- the question now has changed from when the lockout will end to when commissioner Gary Bettman will cancel the remainder of the regular season?

Reports say the magic number is 48 games. If the NHL can't end its labor disputes before then, the season will be canceled.

Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby expressed that he is disappointed with the fallout from the most recent discussions between the NHL and NHL Players Association on a new collective bargaining agreement, according to a report by Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Stating that the players made concessions in the owners' favor, Crosby believes that talks should be in a more favorable place, via the Tribune-Review:

"To go through all that and to get a response like that, is pretty devastating. Gary said at his press conference that they're drawing a line in the sand. Then just say that (during negotiations). Don't waste guys' time there discussing stuff for three days of trying to make something work, and then come out and say that."

Crosby also stated that he believes it will be difficult for the league to regain the players' trust after the events of the previous three days.

In addition, he also expressed an interest in playing hockey overseas if the two sides remain at odds over the negotiation of a new collective bargaining agreement. Stating that he wants to play hockey, the 25-year-old superstar did not elaborate on when a decision would come, but did admit that he is going to be thinking about it more strongly.

Despite the primarily negative nature of his outlook, Crosby also expressed that he believes a deal can still be reached and that the framework was developed over this past week:

"The foundation is there. I don't think those talks were for nothing."

The Pittsburgh Penguins' ownership have left New York City, bad news for NHL fans hoping for hockey this season.

Ron Burkle and Mario Lemieux were in New York on Thursday along with most of the Pittsburgh Penguins front office as the NHL and NHLPA continued to talk about the issues separating the two sides. The group planned to remain in New York as long as it appeared there was a chance of making progress toward a new deal, something all NHL fans would love to see.

According to Penguins' beat reporter Rob Rossi, Penguins' ownership is going to be leaving New York on Thursday, signaling that very little progress has been made:

Games have already been cancelled through December 14, and they are expected to be cancelled through the end of December if there is no significant movement by the weekend. The NHL could still implement a 56-game schedule if a deal can be reached in the next 7-10 days.

With the NHL lockout dragging on, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby indicated Thursday that he was going to start looking a little harder at playing options in Europe, according to a report by Chris Johnston with The Montreal Gazette.

Among 18 players on hand in a bargaining session during which the NHL Player's Association had three proposals dismissed by the league, Crosby's frustration led to him saying Europe was becoming a more serious playing consideration.

"A little harder, yeah," Crosby said of looking at Europe in the report. "I think that's something that everyone's got to figure out. You try to figure out where things stand and I don't think they're in a great spot right now.

"Today wasn't really a step in the right direction if that's what we're trying to do."

The lockout, which went into effect on Sept. 16, has already led to the cancellation of regular season games through Oct. 24. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said Tuesday that in order for a complete season to be played, the two sides would have to come to an agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement by Oct. 25.

The NHL and NHLPA are scheduled to meet Thursday in Toronto to discuss the league's latest proposal and Sidney Crosby will be one of those representing the players at the meeting.

Crosby has been one of the more vocal players as the NHL tries to end the lockout -- as one of the league's brightest stars, the Pittsburgh Penguins' captain has the most to lose from a continued lockout or from a bad deal with the league. Josh Yohe of the Tribune-Review reported it wasn't clear how many players are at the meeting or how many teams are represented, but that Crosby is among them.

The league recently proposed a 50-50 revenue split with the players, revealing the full details of their proposal to the media on Wednesday. Although that proposal is a start, the NHLPA was not thrilled with it and is planning to make a counter-proposal at Thursday's meeting.

If and when the NHL lockout is lifted, the Pittsburgh Penguins will have star player Sidney Crosby ready to go for the first time in two years. He's been working hard this offseason and is totally healthy, which is definitely a good sign. He talked about a lot of these things in a recent interview, but one of the most notable takeaways from said interview had to do with Philadelphia Flyers' player Claude Giroux.

Giroux claimed that Crosby broke his wrists while taking faceoffs during their series in the playoffs last season. When asked about it though, Crosby wasn't exactly apologetic, though he claims he didn't actively try to break them. In fact, Crosby bluntly states that he's not sorry if he did, in fact, break them:

"No. I really like to win the faceoff. I don't try to go after his wrists but if I caught it, I'm not sorry for it. I think it's hilarious I hear that stuff from Philly. It's comedy to me to be honest with you. They're probably involved in that stuff more than any team in the league and they're the ones always talking about it. I guess I'm not apologetic. I was trying to win a faceoff and if I caught his wrist, then I caught his wrist."

It's true that Giroux had to get surgery, but he didn't seem like a player who was out there with a pair of broken wrists, that's for sure. Still, you rarely hear a player speak so boldly when injury is concerned, and it might have a lot to do with the fact that Crosby took some hard hits of his own from Giroux. There's also the comments about the "dirty" factor regarding the Flyers, but that is, of course, just Crosby's opinion.

Sidney Crosby takes part in an extensive interview.

Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby participated in an interview with Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, which was published on Wednesday afternoon.

Covering a wide array of topics, Crosby discussed the ongoing collective bargaining negotiations between the NHL and NHL Players Association.

While several players have expressed dissatisfaction with the process, Crosby took a diplomatic approach and explained that while he was frustrated with the situation, he hoped that both sides could find a way to compromise so that everyone could get back to work. He added that he felt optimistic about the discussions as it finally seemed like both sides were negotiating rather than arguing.

Considering Crosby is attempting to play in his first full season since struggling with concussion problems in 2010-11, the topic of head shots came up. The star forward expressed his interest in having head shots completely removed from the game as to avoid future concussion problems for other players, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

The game's getting faster and guys aren't getting any smaller. With everyone being so aware of concussions now, that's something that you really have to pay attention to.

In terms of looking forward to the 2012-13 regular season, the topic of defense also came up. The Penguins last set of games came in the first round of the postseason, during which they allowed 30 goals over a six-game series against the Philadelphia Flyers. Crosby acknowledged that the team needed to tighten up in their own end.

"I think we gave up big chances. They weren't little mistakes where maybe we eventually got a stick on the puck. It was big chance. You can't give those up. We just really have to tighten up our defensive zone and make sure we're getting out of there quick and not allowing teams to sustain pressure."

In the event that the lockout drags on for an extended period of time, Crosby expressed an interest in playing overseas on a club with players that he already has personal relationships with. Teammate Evgeni Malkin is currently playing with Metallurg Magnitogorsk in Russia's Kontinental Hockey League and hopes to talk Crosby into joining him.

However, Crosby wouldn't acknowledge if that was a place he would consider going.

"We've texted. I've been texted him basically to keep him updated on what's going on here [...] I texted him the other day after he scored that nice one. He doesn't look like he's too rusty."
