In more moves to clear the way for Dana Holgorsen to take over as West Virginia's head football coach, the Mountaineers have fired running backs / slot receivers coach Chris Beatty and tight ends / special teams coach Dave McMichael. These moves come as no surprise, since offensive coordinator Jeff Mullen and offensive line coach Dave Johnson were already fired. The university will apparently give Holgorsen, who will be WVU's offensive coordinator next year, carte blanche to choose his own offensive staff, or most of it, even though Bill Stewart will apparently still be WVU's head coach next season.
↵The dynamic between Stewart and Holgorsen will be very interesting to watch next year - although Stewart will nominally still be in charge, he looks like a figurehead at this point, with the important decisions being made by Holgorsen and athletic director Oliver Luck. On top of that, West Virginia' subpar performance in the Champs Sports Bowl - and the rumblings throughout the week that preceded it about Stewart not preparing the team well - raise questions about how Stewart is going to run the team next year.
