Barry Brunetti Leaving WVU

Freshman backup quarterback Barry Brunetti has announced on Twitter that he's leaving West Virginia University.  Brunetti wouldn't likely get a chance at the starting job until after sophomore Geno Smith graduates.

Hoppy Kerchival is reporting that Brunetti's announcement has come strictly by way of Twitter and that WVU Football officials have not been notified.

I'm always sorry to see someone leave Morgantown, whether they play football or not.  However, I think this is a perfectly understandable decision made by Brunetti.  By all accounts, he has the talent to start somewhere, but with Geno's break-out season, it just may not be West Virginia.  What it does mean, is that the Mountaineers have seen their two backup quarterbacks leave town this season.  The depth at the QB spot is non-existent next season, and Stew and Crew are going to have to hit the recruiting trail hard to remedy that.  With the inconsistent offensive line play this season, the Mountaineers seem to always be one play away from needing to send a back-up into the game.
