Former Mountaineer Assistants Join Pitt Staff

Pitt's new head coach Todd Graham has West Virginia ties, most notably as Defensive Coordinator early in the RichRod era, but his additions to the Panther staff make things even more interesting.

Officially welcomed today as Pitt's coach, Graham announced that he will be bringing former Mountaineer assistants Calvin Magee and Tony Gibson with him to coach the Panthers.  Gibson, like Graham, has history coaching defense under Rich Rodriguez both at West Virginia and Michigan.

More interestingly, Graham is also bringing former Mountaineer offensive coordinator Calvin Magee on staff. Magee has served as RichRod's playcaller while at Michigan.  Under Magee, the Mountaineers had a string of high-scoring seasons led by Pat White and Steve Slaton.  In Magee's final game as Mountaineer playcaller, he shellacked Oklahoma 48-28 in the Fiesta Bowl.

New Mountaineer offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen will now square off with the man who brought speed to Morgantown.  Holgorsen and Magee may be setting themselves up for a series of high scoring Backyard Brawls that will dazzle fans with lots and lots of points.  As if he needed additional motivation to beat his former employer, Magee departed Morgantown amid reports that he had been told that he would never be allowed to coach the Mountaineers because he is black.
