Turmoil In Morgantown Leaves Mountaineer Basketball Team With Eight Scholarship Players

Depth has been a problem for Bob Huggins' Mountaineer team all season, but this weekend things got much much worse.

During Sunday's home win versus South Florida reserve forward Danny Jennings left the bench and did not return. This prompted Huggins to say after the game that Jennings was "never to be seen again." While the university has yet to make an official announcement, which leaves the door open for a return, it seems unlikely.

Yesterday, Huggins announced that senior shooting guard Casey Mitchell had been suspended indefinitely. This is Mitchell's second suspension this season. While it seems likely that Mitchell will return to the team this season, it's hard to say when. This is a shame, considering Mitchell may have played his finest game the day before, grabbing 14 rebounds against the Bulls. While we've always known Mitchell could shoot, few Mountaineer fans knew he could rebound like that. Things were looking up.

Now Huggins only has eight scholarship players at his disposal. The Mountaineers hit the road this week and face Louisville and Cincinnati before returning to Morgantown.
