West Virginia Vs. Georgetown: Casey Mitchell Leads WVU To Upset

Casey Mitchell again showed the big-time scoring ability he demonstrated early this season, and he did so at just the right time, putting up 28 points on 10-for-18 shooting to lead the Mountaineers to an upset victory over the No. 13-ranked Georgetown Hoyas, 65-59. Kevin Jones also added 15 points for West Virginia, as he and Mitchell combined for two-thirds of the Mountaineers’ points. Truck Bryant added nine points off the bench, albeit on 3-for-12 shooting. The Mountaineers led by only three points with two minutes left to play, but Bryant sank three of four foul shots in the final minute of the game to seal the win.

West Virginia also managed to silence Hoyas star Austin Freeman, who had only 11 points, including none in the first half, on 3-for-8 shooting. Jason Clark scored 16 points for Georgetown.

The Mountaineers next face Providence on January 13, followed by a tough matchup against No. 11-ranked Purdue on January 16. The slumping Hoyas, meanwhile, who have lost three of their last four, next face the Pitt Panthers on January 12.
