West Virginia Vs. South Florida: 'Eers, Bulls Scoreless After First Quarter

South Florida's first drive stalled out after picking up a couple of first downs.  Quarterback BJ Daniels, who had been sidelined for the last game and a half with a shoulder injury, only completed two passes on the drive.

The Mountaineers first drive was fruitless as well, though featured an interesting moment when Geno Smith used the old zone read play from the Pat White days to pick up a fourth and one on the drive. It was an inspired play call from Holgorsen, but the 'Eers were forced to punt three plays later.

The Mountaineer defense held strong and harassed BJ Daniels on the Bulls second drive, which ended in a punt, but the stop came at a cost.  Julian Miller injured his left leg, and it appears that he may not return to the football game.  Its a huge blow to a Mountaineer defense that just finally seems to be finding its footing late in the season.

The ensuing Mountaineer drive stalled out and resulted in a Tyler Bitancurt field goal attempt bounce off of the right upright.  WVU has only converted one of four third downs, and it seemed surprising that Holgorsen didn't go for it, when he'd already been successful once this quarter.

The Bulls will punt for the first play of the second quarter.  After one quarter, it's still scoreless.  It hasn't been pretty.
