The Mountaineers got off to a slow start, struggling to score at the half's outset, but then used rebounding and defense to build a ten point lead. Unfortunately, it wouldn't last as the Mountaineers lost sight of Kevin Jones, forcing up one jumpshot after another, and relinquised the lead to the Huskies after a 12-2 run with five minutes left to play.
West Virginia had controlled the game to that point, but once the Huskies pushed the tempo there was little WVU could do. The freshmen looked out of sync, and WVU didn't have an answer for Doran Lamb's mid-range game, or Andre Drummond's size. The 'Eers would hold tight, keeping the score within a point or two down the stretch but it was all for naught. With the game on the line and under 20 seconds to play Kevin Jones missed a game tying three point attempt. The rebound bounced off of the hands of Alex Oriakhi, but the officials gave the ball to the Huskies anyway.
Andre Drummond led the Huskies with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Kevin Jones paced the Mountaineers with 22 points and 5 rebounds.
UConn would hold on for a 64-57 victory. Both teams are 3-2 in the Big East
