Simulated BCS rankings, Week 7: West Virginia climbs to No. 4

The West Virginia Mountaineers moved up this week after beating the Texas Longhorns on the road.

The West Virginia Mountaineers shot all the way to No.4 in the simulated BCS rankings after dispatching the Texas Longhorns in Austin.

Currently, only the Alabama Crimson Tide, Oregon Ducks and South Carolina Gamecocks are higher on the list the West Virginia. The Florida Gators round out the top five as the third SEC team in that group.

The Mountaineers made a nice jump from their previous ranking of 10th. Of all the teams ranked in the BCS' projected top 25 at the start of the weekend, only Texas Tech climbed so many spots.

Quarterback Geno Smith and his team have been awfully impressive this season, with the Heisman-hopeful leading the charge. Smith has been virtually unstoppable, throwing 24 touchdown passes and most amazingly, not a single interception.

Despite a porous defense, the Mountaineers are undefeated and look to be the Big 12's best team as the halfway mark of the campaign approaches.
