The West Virginia Mountaineers closed out their regular season with a victory over the South Florida Bulls, ending on a high note. The 'Eers closed out the regular season by losing seven of their final eleven games. When we last checked in on the Mountaineers they were a projected No. 12 seed in the NCAA tournament. After their win over USF, the 'Eers are still projected by ESPN to be a No. 12 seed.
The big saving grace for the 'Eers entering the tournament is the fact that they have a good number of wins over top competition, according to Yahoo! Sports.
he Mountaineers gutted out an important road victory, helped by poor clock management down the stretch by the Bulls. While USF finishes tied for fourth in the Big East, the Bulls have just two top-50 wins and sit squarely on the NCAA bubble. Despite the win, WVU closed out its regular season by losing seven of its final 11 games. But WVU does have nine top-100 victories and is 8-7 away from home.
The number of top-100 wins and the Mountaineers road record should help solidify their No. 12 seed, regardless of what happens in the Big East tournament. Obviously the 'Eers can improve their seed if they go deep or even win the Big East tournament, but it looks like No. 12 will be the lowest possible seed for West Virginia.
