The West Virginia Mountaineers football program has missed out on top recruit Taquan Mizzell, as Tuesday the all-purpose running back announced his verbal commitment to the University of Virginia. Mizzell, a four-star recruit from Bayside High School in Virginia Beach, also chose not to attend North Carolina, one of his other final schools. Clemson and Notre Dame also had scholarship offers out to Mizzell.
Mizzel, who stands 5-foot-10 and weighs 178 pounds, is listed as a four-star recruit by Scout and ESPN, and a five-star prospect by Rivals. According to every major recruiting service, Mizzel is rated as one of the top 30 running backs.
Last season, Mazzel played through an ankle injury to rush for 1,098 yards and 23 touchdowns.
