It's the final weekend of September, and college football teams are starting their conference schedules, including two local teams. West Virginia will make tits Big 12 debut on Saturday in Morgantown, hosting a ranked Baylor Bears team. There should be plenty of points, as the Bears offense continues to move the ball with Art Briles at the helm, even if they're without Robert Griffin III. The Bears edged out the upset experts Louisiana-Monroe last Friday in a game that featured constant offense on both sides. Dana Holgorsen's group should continue to rack up gaudy numbers against the No. 25 Bears.
Penn State will kick off its Big Ten season with a trip to Champaign to face an Illinois team coming off a blowout loss to Louisiana Tech. The Fighting Illini are 2-2 this season, and there will certainly be a controversial undercurrent to this matchup. New Illinois head coach Tim Beckman was widely criticized for his aggressive tactics when it came to trying to recruit, or poach, players from the PSU program after the NCAA handed out sanctions.
