West Virginia Football: Big 12 Scores Tons Of Points In WVU Off Week

WVU football was off this week (the Mountaineers' next game is next Saturday, against James Madison), so now might be a good time to take a look around the rest of the Big 12, in a getting-to-know-you sort of way.

The first few weeks of the season typically are kind to big-conference teams, and this week in the Big 12 was no exception. No. 5 Oklahoma routed Florida A&M, 69-13, with Damien Williams rushing for four touchdowns. No. 17 Texas destroyed New Mexico, 45-0, with David Ash throwing for 221 yards and two touchdowns. No. 20 TCU also pitched a shutout, beating Grambling State 56-0 as Gary Patterson became the winningest coach in TCU history, with 110 career wins. Josh Boyce had four catches for 102 yards and two scores. No. 21 Kansas State, meanwhile, beat Miami 52-13. John Hubert rushing for 106 yards and a touchdown, but it was Collin Klein who stole the show, going 9-for-11 through the air for 201 yards and a touchdown and rushing for 71 yards and three scores.

The only loser among the Big 12's ranked teams was No. 18 Oklahoma State, who fought back from a 30-14 deficit early in the third quarter but ultimately ended up losing 59-38 after a barrage of offense from both teams. Wes Lunt attempted 58 passes and threw for 440 yards and four touchdowns, but also had three interceptions.

Texas Tech beat Texas State 58-10, as Seth Doege threw for 319 yards and five touchdowns. Iowa State took a win in Iowa City, knocking off Iowa 9-6 in a contest in which both offenses struggled.

Kansas lost to Rice, 25-24, as Rice kicker Chris Boswell hit his fourth field goal of the game as time ran out.
